Abstract
The results form part of a research project which aims to describe the perception of teacher training students at Catalan universities (Spain) regarding the treatment of the schools located in Rural Contexts in the curricula of teaching degrees. The specific training for teachers in rural schools throughout Spain is practically non-existent in the initial training syllabuses. It is necessary to have clear evidence of what is being taught and what the students’ interest would be in integrating this knowledge into their training. A survey questionnaire was carried out on a representative sample of students and interviews with former students, experienced teachers, and university professors. This article offers a reflective summary of some of the findings, identifying aspects that need to be considered. The conclusions show the need to incorporate rural schools in initial training and which elements should be introduced into study plans.
Key words: initial training, schools in rural areas, study programmes, teacher
