Abstract
This paper is to share some invaluable experiences in introducing and promoting Lesson Study as an approach towards meaningful teaching and learning
for KAFA teachers in Malaysia.
LS was conducted at five different schools, and fifteen KAFA teachers were involved in teaching four different subjects, namely Arabic Language, Adab, Jawi and Seerah. For each subject, at least two cycles of LS were
conducted. Each lesson took an hour, and a reflection session was carried out immediately after the teaching and learning sessions. Reflection sessions were the most fruitful sessions for all participating teachers. All teachers were given opportunities to express themselves as well as to provide suggestions and ideas
during the reflection sessions.
Teachers and students have gained benefits as a result of the LS conducted. Some of the benefits for teachers were strong confidence in teaching and learning, working collaboratively (not working in silo), respect for each other and learning from each other. In addition, LS has been one of the professional development for them. Meanwhile, no students were left behind in learning and enjoyed the teaching and learning sessions. Upon completion of the LS, students were asked to give feedback about their learning experiences and what they had learnt. This is very vital for teachers to improve their
teaching and learning processes in future.
