Implementing sustainable development goals into the English language and literature curriculum at Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools

Abstract
This Lesson Study aims to examine the effective implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals into the grade 11 English language and literature curriculum. The study conducted at Nazarbayev Intellectual School (NIS)
Turkistan in Kazakhstan was based on teacher and student interviews, lesson observations and reflections on the ways the curriculum is conducive to discussions about relevant global issues and retention rates among students. The study concluded that implementing SDGs is quite successful, with challenges remaining in curricular alignment and complexity of some SDG goals whose approachability needs further research.
